BLOGGERS' QUILT FESTIVAL::SPRING 2011

It's that time again!  The Bloggers' Quilt Festival:: Spring 2011 is in full swing over at Amy's Creative Side.  If you don't know what the BQF is you really should go over and check it out.  Just be sure to have a comfy seat so you can enjoy all of the beautiful quilts. 

For those of you that are visiting from the BQF, WELCOME!  I don't have a new quilt to show you this time around (I had good intentions but time ran out on me!).  Instead I am featuring the first quilt I ever made (I even did the simple quilting and hand stitched binding!).

 I made this quilt for my cousin's first baby, Owen.  Being my first quilt, I was very worried about making something that my cousin would like and also use.  I wanted it to be special for them.  I decided to order some of the bedding that she had picked for the nursery, put my seam ripper to good use and cut it up.  I used 2 crib sheets and 1 valance for the squares (big and small).  I was able to find some coordinating fabrics for the sashing, binding and backing at my local quilt store. 

I truly fell in love with this quilt (despite the many imperfections!).  The finished product and especially the process were so rewarding for me.  I was officially hooked.

Even their kitty, Olive, likes it :)
